The picture-perfect beach of Palolem has a beautiful crescent
shaped bay fringed with a swaying palm trees. A pair of wooded
headlands, a perfect curve of white sand arcs and the Sahyadri Ghat,
which tapers into the sea has raised it from being an undiscovered
idyllic spot for the tourists who came here by chance to a hot favorite
tourist package with a string of cafes, hawkers from Karnataka and a
tent camp set on the beachfront. There are lots of souvenir stalls too
for the mini-van and boat parties of tourists that come here to visit
this purposefully traditional village, where people are known for their
laid back attitude and three daily rounds of Todi (also spelt as Toddy),
a form of locally prepared liquor.
